Did Slavery ever exist in India ? It is clear from Hindu religious texts especially Mahabharata that slavery of any sort was discouraged in the ancient Hindu Society. Only after the Mohammadean invasion did slavery slowly creep into Indian society.

ഏകദേശം 250  വർഷങ്ങൾക്ക് മുമ്പ് തൊട്ടുള്ള ഇന്ത്യയിലെ അടിമത്വത്തെ സംബന്ധിക്കുന്ന ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് രേഖകൾ ഇന്ന്  internet archives-ലൂടെ ലഭ്യമാണ്. ഈ രേഖകളുടെ ഒരു സമാഹാരം, ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ലോകസഭയ്ക്ക് തുല്യമായി ബ്രിട്ടനിലെ  അധോസഭയായ (Lower House of Parliament)  House of Commons-ൽ ആദ്യം സമർപ്പിയ്ക്കപ്പെട്ടത്   1827 ജൂൺ ഒന്നാം തീയതിയാണ്.  സമർപ്പിയ്ക്കപ്പെട്ട രേഖകൾ, അധോസഭയുടെ നിർദ്ദേശ പ്രകാരം, ദേശ-കാല ക്രമം അനുസരിച്ച്   1828-ൽ  പുസ്തകരൂപത്തിൽ  അച്ചടിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി. പുസ്തകത്തിന്റെ പേര്   Slavery in India…
